Physical therapist, fellows, resident join UMMC faculty

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.

Donald “Trey” Clark III, M.D.

Dr. Donald “Trey” Clark III, who recently completed a cardiology fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic, in Ohio, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of medicine.

A native Mississippian, Clark received his B.A. cum laude from the University of Mississippi and earned his M.D. at UMMC in 2010. He completed internal medicine residency in 2013 at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he served as chief resident from 2013-14. Following residency he completed fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at Cleveland Clinic from 2014-17. He is interested in strategies to improve statewide cardiovascular health and is currently working toward a Master’s of Public Health from Harvard University.

Clark is an active member of the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology. He has given presentations at multiple national scientific meetings and authored or coauthored 13 articles in peer-reviewed journals, including Circulation and the American Journal of Cardiology.

Meredith M. Flowers, D.P.T., Ph.D.

Dr. Meredith M. Flowers, a staff physical therapist at Allied Therapy and Consulting Services, North Little Rock, Arkansas, since 2015, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of physical therapy.

After receiving her B.S. in exercise science from the University of Mississippi in 2011, Flowers earned her D.P.T. at UMMC in 2014. She was a pediatric physical therapy resident at the University of Central Arkansas from 2014-15, and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in physical therapy at the University of Central Arkansas, Conway.

The coauthor of a scientific presentation and abstract, “The Effects of Hippotherapy on Gait Characteristics in Children with Cerebral Palsy: A Systematic Review,” displayed at the American Physical Therapy Association Combined Sections Meeting in Las Vegas in 2014 and published in Pediatric Physical Therapy, Flowers was principal investigator of an Amtryke research project, “The Effects of an Adaptive Biking Program on Cardiovascular Endurance, Strength, Balance, Bilateral Coordination, Gross Motor Function, and Participation in an Adolescent with Down Syndrome.” She is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association and the Mississippi Physical Therapy Association.

Tabitha Manero Marek, M.D.

Dr. Tabitha Manero Marek, a recent family medicine resident, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of family medicine on July 31, 2017.

After receiving her B.S. in biology from Union College, Schenectady, New York, in 2007, Marek earned her M.S. in medical science at New York Medical College, Valhalla, in 2010 and her M.D. at the St. George’s University School of Medicine, Grenada, West Indies, in 2014. She then had a family medicine residency at UMMC from 2014-17.

The coauthor of a meeting abstract supplement article for the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology, Marek is a member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society and the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Honor Society. An active member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Mississippi Society of Family Physicians, she has been a Jackson Free Clinic volunteer.

Michael B. Marlin, M.D.

Dr. Michael B. Marlin, recently a medical toxicology fellow at the Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Center, Denver, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of emergency medicine.

After receiving his B.S. in microbiology from Mississippi State University in 2007, Marlin earned his M.D. in 2011 at UMMC, where he had an emergency medicine residency from 2011-15. He completed his medical toxicology fellowship at the Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Center.

The author or coauthor of four posters presented at scientific meetings, Marlin has given 11 oral presentations nationally, primarily on the current opioid epidemic and drug cryptomarkets on the darknet. He was recently published as the coauthor of an American Journal of Health System Pharmacists article, “Common Marijuana-related Cases Encountered in the Emergency Department.”
